Supporting Teens Academically

Adolescence is a developmental stage marked by increased autonomy, executive functioning growth, and identity formation. Parents play a critical support role by balancing structure with independence.

Best Practices:

  • Establish consistent routines (homework time, study space, digital boundaries).

  • Monitor progress weekly through grade portals and teacher communication.

  • Encourage self-advocacy — have your teen email teachers directly before stepping in.

  • Focus on process, not just grades (study habits, time management, persistence).

Normalize struggle — academic challenge builds resilience.

Conversation Prompts:

  • What assignment felt most challenging this week?”

  • “What strategy helped you understand this topic?”

  • “How can I support you without taking over?”

We are here for you, too.
